Implicit in the earning of the FOT (Fiber Optic Technician) certification is that the candidates have advanced knowledge of fiber optics concepts.

What are the compulsory exams to earn credit towards this certification?
Candidates who wish to become a FOT must pass the ETA CFOT exam. In preparation for this exam candidates are advised to also do the approved ETA training course. (Please note that the training course is a recommendation.) This training course is available from ETA Bootcamp.

What can be done in terms of Recertification for FOT?
The certification validity period is four years. Recertification will thus be required.
Your FOT recertification can be effected if you have received 24 or more classroom hours of additional fiber optic training, or take a recertification. If you have not been working in the fiber optic industry as a fiber optic installer, technician, engineer, or educator since you obtained certification you will be required to attend an approved CFOT refresher course to renew your FOT certification.
